How we make money

Some outbound links to suppliers may earn us a commission. That is the whole of it, and it changes nothing about what appears on this site or in what order.

What money can buy

A commission when somebody follows a link from here to a supplier and becomes a customer. Links that may earn one carry rel="sponsored" and pass through /go/ so we can change a destination in one place.

What money cannot buy

• Inclusion. The universe is HMRC’s recognition list. We cannot add a supplier who pays or remove one who does not, because we do not decide who is on it.
• Position. Table order comes from the data: alphabetical, or by the measure the page is about. There is no promoted slot and there will not be one.
• A better description. What a product is comes from its own name; whether pricing is published comes from the supplier’s own site. Neither is negotiable.
• Removal of an unflattering fact. If a supplier will not publish a price, the site says so, including if that supplier pays us.

Why we publish products that pay us nothing

Because the list would be dishonest without them. HMRC recognises 6 free products, including its own Basic PAYE Tools, and for a lot of small employers a free product is the right answer. A site that quietly dropped them would be more profitable and worth less.
